Can you believe that we are at the end of October already, which means there are only two months left until the end of 2016? This is also the time of the year when we prepare the annual report, which provides an overview of the fund for the 2015/2016 financial year, as well as a personalised benefit statement for all fund members. Please be on the lookout for these important documents, which will be posted during the month of November 2016.

In this edition of the news update we include information on the funeral benefit provided by the fund. We trust that this will assist HR officers, our members and their family members to claim this benefit, should the need arise.

FUNERAL BENEFITS

NFMW members and their qualifying family members are covered for the funeral benefit, irrespective of the risk cover option elected. The benefits provided as from the 1st of July 2016 are as follows, on the respective funds:

Category C - fund

Main member: R40 000
Qualifying spouse/life partner: R40 000
Qualifying child 6 years and older (above 21 years of age must be a full time student, unmarried and/or disabled):R22 000
Qualifying child from 26 weeks of pregnancy until 6 years: R11 000

Category A - fund

Main member : R 11 000
Qualifying spouse : R 11 000
Qualifying children : R 4 500

Did you know? In the event of the principal member’s death or disability before the age of 65 years, the funeral cover will continue until such time as he/she would have reached the age of 65 years.

Claiming the funeral benefit

Sanlam must be notified of the funeral claim no later than 12 months from the date of death. Please click here for the claim form as well as the checklist of documentation required. The claim must be faxed to 0866680750 or e-mailed to the fund. Please contact the fund to verify receipt of the documentation. Payment of the benefit will be made within 48 hours after the complete claim has been received.

Registration of qualifying dependents

Please ensure that you complete and submit the Registration of qualifying dependents for funeral benefits-form. This will assist in expediting the payment of a funeral benefit. Also remember to complete the Application for registration of life partner and the Affidavit by Life partner-forms, where relevant.
