National Fund for Municipal Workers

Latest update: Elections, returns and online access

Good day,
We trust that you are all keeping well.

The Fund applies a life stage model which automatically takes members through different investment portfolios i.e. aggressive to more conservative portfolios as they approach retirement age. Members have the option to select any or a combination of the individual investment portfolios available, should they choose not to be invested in the fund’s default life stage model. We have noticed an increase in the number of members who opted to switch to "safer" portfolios, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic and market fallout.

The markets have, however, recovered significantly in the past few months as can be seen in the various portfolio returns provided in the summary table below. Investing in a low-risk portfolio i.e. Capital Protector would have resulted in a member missing out on the subsequent market recovery. Members are therefore encouraged to review their investment portfolio options from time to time and obtain independent financial advice to ensure that the portfolio/s they have elected their retirement savings to be invested in, are still best suited to promote the achievement of the best possible retirement outcome. Please watch the latest video on this important topic.

The Trustee elections are well underway in the Gauteng, Limpopo, Northwest, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal provinces. We are overwhelmed by the active participation of members in this year's elections. Members in these provinces who have not yet voted, are reminded of the deadline, 9 October 2020. The election documentation is available on the fund's website www.nationalfund.co.za and by clicking on the links below.
Please remember, we are always here to help if you need any information or assistance with a fund-related query.
Regards,

Leslie Ndwana

INVESTMENT PORTFOLIO SWITCHING

Making the right choices at the right time
It remains of utmost importance to focus on longer-term return prospects and investment strategies, as short-term volatility and any reaction thereto could easily result in emotional and usually incorrect investment decisions. Watch the latest video on switching by clicking here.
